I am, Dedreanna Scott, a second-year occupational therapy student at the Medical University of South Carolina. I hope you are well and thriving! I am reaching out, because I think the Encompass Heath Stroke Support Group could potentially help with my capstone project!
My curriculum requires us to complete a capstone project involving creating an idea, finding a population (adults/pediatrics) with a need for this idea, and implementing a product (app, videos, program, or website).
Throughout school, a topic I have been passionate about is occupational therapy for stroke survivors. I feel as though occupational therapy with an adjunct of dance can provide a positive impact for this population. Specifically, I am interested in working with a dance intervention for promotion of social participation and functional mobility.
I am currently at the stage of getting data for my capstone idea by gathering feedback from stroke survivors and occupational therapist on how dance-based movement can be used as an intervention during treatment sessions. These responses will provide valuable input for how my project will carry over in the real world for occupational therapist to use in the future!
